Ever wondered what it’s like to drive a Tokyo JR train? Actually, I hadn’t until I got a rare chance to see the driver doing his thing. Usually the glass is smoked or there’s a screen obstructing your view, and I’ve never seen this again since. Check out the illegible display on his computer screen!

I was on Yamanote a couple days ago and I’m watching that video screen that displays info about the stops when it flashed up some red text warning that the system was on *high alert*. About a minute later, the train is arriving at Shinjuku and it suddenly stopped! The emergency button was pressed — this is the first time I’ve even been on a train where that happened. So all this combined with the recent news that North Korea is playing around with Sarin nerve gas made me a little nervous at this point. Anyway, train resumed in a minute or two and all was well.
